FERA supports ACCIÓN’s first Awards ceremony
FERA Spanish member ACCIÓN held its first Award ceremony on 16 November at the Film Academy, honouring fiction, animation, documentary and new directors. This edition’s winners are:
-
- Best New Director: Javier Macipe for The Blue Star
- Best Animation Direction: Pablo Berger for Robot Dreams
- Best Documentary Direction: Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar for You Are Not Alone
- Best Direction of a Fiction Feature Film: Pilar Palomero for Los chispas
The ACCIÓN Honorary Award 2024, created to recognise excellence in the direction of audiovisual works, was awarded to Fernando Colomo for his entire career by the Board of Directors.
“We want the work of our directors to be recognised, as they contribute to enriching our cinematography with their effort and talent. These awards are a recognition not only of the quality of the works, but also of the dedication of those who make them possible. At ACCIÓN, we want to highlight the fundamental role of directors in audiovisual creation, and reward their ability to excite and innovate through their stories. It is an exciting time for cinema in our country, and we want to celebrate it.” – Pilar Pérez Solano, president of ACCIÓN
FERA Chair Bill Anderson recorded a video message highlighting the close relationship between FERA and ACCIÓN, and delved into the similarities between his experience as a filmmaker in the UK and that of his Spanish peers. Both English and Spanish being international languages, they attract global streamers that invest and bring employment locally, without contributing sustainably to local culture and local filmmakers’ artistic freedom. Finally, he congratulated the winners, nominees and ACCIÓN for its initiative to promote Spanish authors.
“Local culture is more enduring, it’s organically grown – not imported – but it must be nourished if it is to continue to thrive. These ACCIÓN Awards will nourish all the directors in Spain, who are the creative custodians and drivers of the Spanish audiovisual industry.” – Bill Anderson, Chair of FERA
