FERA CEO speaks at MaMA Music & Convention on the future of EU cultural policy

MaMA Music & Convention is a professional gathering which took place in Paris between 16 and 18 October. It included concerts and listening sessions, as well as conferences and debates centred around every aspect of music, from recording to policy.
FERA CEO Pauline Durand-Vialle participated in a panel titled “What can we expect from Europe”. Tackling the future of European cultural policies, particularly in the music sector, the discussion was held in the context of the recent establishment of the new European Parliament and the ongoing reconfiguration of the Commission.
The panel was moderated by Fabien Miclet, an independent consultant specializing in European music policy, and brought together EU music and audiovisual policy experts.
As the head of EU and international affairs at the Centre National de la Musique, Corinne Sadki delved into the untapped potential for an ambitious funding and policy framework at European level for the music sector, while Juliette Metz, Secretary General of SACEM, underlined how collective management organisations, creators and rightholders should be increasingly active on the EU policy front.
Pauline Durand-Vialle highlighted the similarities between the music and audiovisual sectors in terms of EU fundings and regulation, which needs to reflect the dual cultural and economic nature of both sectors at a time when the new EU Commission’s policy agenda will focus on the competitiveness of the European economy.
