The workshop was introduced and moderated by FERA CEO Pauline Durand-Vialle, gathering 63 participants from the FERA and FSE network in 55 countries.
The meeting kicked off with a state of play of the transposition of the 2019 Copyright Directive’s provisions on transparency and fair remuneration in authors’ and performers’ contracts, presented by Ula Furgal (CREATe, University of Glasgow).
The workshop’s main session then showcased the variety of existing collective solutions to support an effective implementation of the new harmonized rights related to authors and performers’ fair remuneration in contracts introduced by the Directive.
SAA Executive Director Cécile Despringre presented an overview of the implementation of article 18’s principle of appropriate and proportionate remuneration through collective rights management.
Case studies then presented a selection of national frameworks for collective negotiations and agreements: from interprofessional agreements to collective rights management solutions for VOD exploitation in the Netherlands by Marcel Fokkink (Netwerk Scenarioschrijvers / Auteursbond), a layered approach including interprofessional agreements in France by Barbara Lesclauze (La Garrd), Joint Remuneration Agreements in Germany by Peter Henning (VDD – Verband Deutscher Drehbuchautoren e.V.), and collective bargaining with global streamers by Christine Strindberg (The Swedish Union for performing arts and film).
This webinar offered FERA and FSE members a platform to get information on the 2019 Copyright Directive transposition process and exchange ideas on available formats to collective mechanisms allowing for an effective implementation of its provisions related to authors’ and performers’ fair remuneration in exploitation contracts.
