FERA-FSE-UNI MEI Hold Third Online Workshop “Competition law and collective agreements on freelance audiovisual authors’ working conditions”
FERA, FSE and UNI MEI held the third online workshop “Competition law and collective agreements on freelance audiovisual authors’ working conditions” of the joint project “Strengthening Collective Bargaining for Audiovisual Creators” (CBW) on January 27, 2022.
The workshop was introduced and moderated by FERA CEO Pauline Durand-Vialle and FSE Executive Officer David Kavanagh, gathering about 40 participants from the FERA and FSE networks in Europe.
The meeting kicked off with the presentation of the results of a survey on FERA & FSE members’ engagement in the Copyright Directive transposition process by Pauline Durand- Vialle, which found that engaging with the screenwriters’ and directors’ community on the Copyright Directive transposition process has proven challenging and outlined suggestions for practical support to national professional organizations.
The workshop’s main session focused on EU Competition law and collective agreements on working conditions of freelance audiovisual authors introduced by a presentation of EU Commission draft Guidelines on collective agreements of self-employed people by Tatiana López Garrido, Policy Officer at DG COMPETITION/European Commission, followed by an exchange on EU audiovisual authors’ and creative workers’ perspectives with Johannes Studinger, Head of UNI MEI & EURO MEI.
This online workshop offered FERA and FSE members a platform to get information on the EU competition framework and exchange ideas on how to successfully build collective agreements on freelance audiovisual authors’ working conditions in the context of the implementation of the 2019 Copyright Directive.
With the support of the European Commission.
