FERA speaks at EU Commission’s Voices of Culture event “Culture and Creative Sectors and Industries driving Green Transition and facing the Energy Crisis”
FERA board member and Dutch director Martijn Winkler joined a two-day Brainstorming meeting focusing on “Culture and Creative Sectors and Industries driving Green Transition and facing the Energy Crisis” in the European Capital of Culture 2024, Tartu (Estonia), last June 15 & 16.
Voices of Culture, the platform for dialogue offered to civil society by the European Commission, invited interested organisations from EU member states to apply to participate in the upcoming topic on Culture and Creative Sectors and Industries driving Green Transition and facing the Energy Crisis. This fourth Voices of Culture topic 2021-2023 will reflect on the state of the art and generate recommendations for policy and actions for decision-makers on this topic.
In this opening brainstorming session, participants were asked to think about how to power up culture’s inherent potential for innovation, fostering a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, sustainable, and ecologically responsible future. They explored strategies to seamlessly integrate culture and creative industries (CSSI) into diverse socio-economic activities throughout Europe and containing climate change through emissions reduction, climate resilience, biodiversity restoration, and augmented social cohesion. They also reflected on how to enable and speed-up the greening of cultural activities and the CCSI.
Following this brainstorming session, they will collaboratively draft a comprehensive report that encapsulates their discussions and recommendations, which will be presented to the European Commission during a Dialogue meeting scheduled for September 13, 2023, in Brussels, Belgium.
