Internationally acclaimed documentarian Heddy Honigmann passed away on May 21 after a long battle with illness.
The Peruvian-born filmmaker built a strong filmography with over 40 titles in a career spanning over thirty years, and became one of the most prominent Dutch directors, with retrospectives at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. She remained an active filmmaker until the very last, despite her illness, with her final film No Hay Camino – There is No Path premiering at Hot Docs last year. FERA is deeply honoured she also acted as an Ambassador for European Screen Directors.
