In memoriam of British director and former FERA Chair of the Board Piers Haggard

Our beloved colleague Piers Haggard passed away on January 11, 2023.

We will remember Piers as a fierce advocate for directors’ rights and a determined leader during his tenure as chairman of our organization from 2009 to 2013, a continuation of his work championing directors and their rights in the UK – in addition to a remarkable directing career.

His commitment was acknowledged by many over time, including his friend and late former FERA Honorary President Sir Alan Parker who said: “No other director has done more for his fellow directors over the last 40 years than this man here.”

Our current Chair of the board Bill Anderson said: “I will never forget the twinkle in Piers’ eyes when he quietly called me “comrade”. Or how proud it made me feel. And his clarity of insight into the debt UK screen directors owe to Europe for our legal copyright continues to inspire my work with FERA post-Brexit. We’ve lost a true gentleman.”

He will be deeply missed.
