Italian filmmaker Maurizio Sciarra becomes FERA Ambassador
FERA is proud to announce the appointment of Maurizio Sciarra as a new FERA Ambassador.
Maurizio Sciarra joins Marco Bellocchio, Isabel Coixet, Agnieszka Holland, Michaël R. Roskam, Charles Sturridge, István Szabó, and Jasmila Žbanić, distinguished European filmmakers whose work exemplifies the richness, diversity, and excellence of European audiovisual creation.
FERA Ambassadors are highly respected filmmakers who voluntarily support FERA’s mission by bringing visibility to the concerns of screen directors and engaging with policymakers.
Maurizio Sciarra is an award-winning Italian filmmaker who began his career as assistant to Luigi Comencini before making his directorial debut with The Sirocco Room, followed by the critically acclaimed Off to the Revolution by a 2CV, which won the Golden Leopard at Locarno. He has directed a wide range of films and documentaries exploring political, historical, and cultural subjects.
Beyond his creative work, Sciarra has been an active advocate for filmmakers’ rights and the European audiovisual community. He served on the FERA board, chaired the Italian authors’ association 100autori, co-founded Venice Days at the Venice Film Festival, and was President of the Apulia Film Commission. He is also a long-standing member of the European Film Academy and the Italian Film Academy.
