REPORT: FERA partners in Brussels screening of ‘Aurora’ by Miia Tervo at BOZAR – 19 November 2019
The special screening of ‘Aurora’ by Miia Tervo, was organised by EFAD (European Film Agency Directors Association), in partnership with the Finnish Presidency of the EU Council, LUX Film Prize, FERA, SAA (Society of Audiovisual Authors), CICAE (International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas), EWA Network (European Women’s Audiovisual Network), Cineuropa, EPC (The European Producers Club), Europa International and CEDC (European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity). The event took place on November 19th at BOZAR, in Brussels, in the presence of the director Miia Tervo and the producer Max Malka.
The screening was preceded by a cocktail reception, where EU Commissioner Designate for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel, EU Parliament Vice-President Klara Dobrev and Riitta Kaivosoja, Director General at Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, spoke about the importance of cinema and the audiovisual sector for European policies and culture.
Miia Tervo is an award-winning writer and director from Lapland, Finland, known for ‘Little Snow Animal’ (2009) and ‘The Seal’ (2005). ‘Aurora’, her latest film, is an unlikely Finnish comedy depicting original and fresh characters and engaging life stories. The film was released in 2019, at the opening of Göteborg Film Festival and it is one of the nominees for the Nordic Council Film Prize. Find out more about Miia Tervo and her filmography here.
The screening ended with a Q&A with Miia Tervo and Max Malka, moderated by Tamara Tatishvili, from EWA Network / European Women’s Audiovisual Network, where the public had the opportunity to talk with the director and the producer and find out more about the creation of the film, the story behind it and its characters.
