Where are we at on authors’ fair remuneration? – FERA holds internal webinar on Copyright Directive Implementation

FERA held the internal webinar “Copyright Directive Implementation – Where are we at on authors’ fair remuneration?” on May 5, 2021. The webinar was introduced by FERA Chair Klemen Dvornik and moderated by FERA CEO Pauline Durand-Vialle, gathering 34 participants from 20 countries within our network.
The webinar featured a background presentation outlining the state of play of the implementation process and the ambitions laid out in chapter 3 of the 2019 Copyright Directive by FERA CEO Pauline Durand-Vialle and three case studies: Focus on The Netherlands by Olga Meijer (legal advisor for DDG & VEVAM), Focus on Germany by Katharina Uppenbrink (Initiative Urheberrecht) and Jobst Oetzmann (BVR) and Focus on Croatia by Hrvoje Hribar (DHFR).
The exchange shed light on discrepancies across the EU concerning the status of the implementation, with The Netherlands having adopted a draft legislation transposing the 2019 Copyright Directive while other Member States continue stakeholders’ consultations and parliamentary work on legislative proposals.
The online conference offered FERA members a platform to discuss their local situation as well as opportunities and challenges they encountered throughout the implementation process.
