In the framework of the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council, EFAD proposed the exclusive screening in Brussels of the Hungarian feature film Semmelweis directed by Lajos Koltai, on Tuesday 10 December at Cinema Palace.
The event was organized in partnership with the European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (ECCD) with the support of the European Audiovisual Production association (CEPI), Cineuropa, European Producers Club (EPC), Europa Cinemas, Europa Distribution, Europa International, European Film Academy, Society of Audiovisual Authors (SAA) and FERA.
This biannual event took place in the framework of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and is part of a cycle of screenings “Rendez-vous with European Cinema” which celebrates the beauty and diversity of storytelling for the big screen in Europe.
Semmelwies is Hungary’s official entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature. Set in 19th century Vienna, the film follows Ignac Semmelweis, a Hungarian doctor looking for the cause of the puerperal fever epidemic that is decimating the maternity clinic patients.
The packed screening was followed by a Q&A with the director moderated by Carole Tongue, Chair of the European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity and a cocktail reception.
