UK : no private copying exception without compensation
7 December 2014
FERA member Directors UK, along with several creators’ organizations, called for a judicial review of the recently implemented exception for private copying.
Launched by The Musicians’ Union, The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, and UK Music, the judicial review request is based on the absence of compensation for rightholders, something that is clearly stipulated in the European Copyright Directive. This could set a dangerous precedent, as private copying has been put in question in several EU countries over the last few years.
